Introduction of CNG vehicle Fuel in Bangladesh:
Natural Gas the indigenous mineral resources plays a significant role in the development of the Social economic condition for the people of Bangladesh. Multi-purpose and well establish. Large quantities of fuel are imported from abroad for the transport sector in the country. As a result, a huge amount of foreign currencies are spent. In 1982 Petro Bangla on behalf of the Govt. of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh took a pilot project for the use of CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) as an alternative fuel in the transport sector. About 29 Vehicles (16 Petrol vehicles and 13 Diesel buses/Trucks) were converted into CNG systems under the pilot project. On the basis of the successful outcome of the project Govt. started the commercial use of CNG in Bangladesh as an alternative fuel in the transport sector. Use of CNG as an alternative fuel to petrol and diesel in road vehicles saves foreign currency as well as prevents air pollution. Special emphasis has been given to the CNG sector and the Govt. of Bangladesh adopted the supportive program for preventing pollution, saving foreign exchange, and expanding of multi-use of indigenous resources natural gas.
